Historically, Sandalwood has been used to calm hyper activity and is often used as an anti-depressant. People find it soothing during highly emotional and worrisome times. It is used in the treatment of bronchitis, sore throats, laryngitis, and coughs. It can treat dry skin and acne, and has been effective in relieving some digestive problems including nausea. Sandalwood has been used to treat urinary infections. dōTERRA Sandalwood Essential Oil is grown in India, is of the botanical family Santalaceae, and is steam distilled from the heartwood of the tree.
For sore throats, laryngitis, or congestive infections, take with juice, agave, honey or it can be gargled or used topically on the throat or in a lymphatic massage. Use with a full topical or foot massage to treat emotional issues. Diffused it is antibacterial and can help with coughing as a sedative or a calming application. Mix 1-2 drops of Sandalwood oil with 1-2 ounces of pure cranberry juice (not sweetened) 3 times per day for relief of bladder or urinary track infections.
